The ADXL346 is a small, thin, ultra‑low‑power 3‑axis accelerometer with high‑resolution (13‑bit) measurements up to ±16g. The digital output data format is 16‑bit binary and can be accessed via a SPI (3‑ or 4‑wire) or I2C digital interface. The ADXL346 is perfect for mobile device applications. It measures static gravitational acceleration for tilt‑sensing applications, as well as dynamic acceleration due to motion or vibration. With its high resolution (4mg/LSB), it can detect tilt changes of less than 1 degree.
The ADXL356 offers some special sensing features, such as remotely detecting activity or inactivity by comparing acceleration on any axis with a user‑set g value, tap detection in single or double taps in any direction, and free‑fall detection if the device is dropped. The ADXL356 also has built‑in orientation detection with four‑ and six‑position detection that users can map to interrupt notifications to the controller. These features can each be mapped to one of two interrupt output pins. It has an integrated, patent‑pending memory management system with a 32‑level FIFO buffer to store data, minimizing host processor activity and reducing overall system power consumption. Low‑power mode supports smart motion‑based power management with threshold detection and active acceleration measurement at very low power.
The ADXL362 is an ultra‑low‑power, 3‑axis MEMS accelerometer. When outputting data at 100Hz, its power consumption is less than 2μA, and in motion‑triggered wake‑up mode, it’s just 270 nA. Unlike accelerometers that achieve low power by taking periodic samples, the ADXL362 doesn’t undersample or alias the input signal; it samples the full bandwidth of the sensor at the full data rate. The ADXL362 usually offers 12‑bit output resolution, and when lower resolution is enough, it also provides 8‑bit data output for more efficient single‑byte transfers. Its measurement ranges are 2g, 4g, and 8g, with 1mg/LSB resolution in the 2g range. For applications that require noise levels below the ADXL362’s typical 550 μg/√Hz, you can choose one of two low‑noise modes (typical as low as 175 μg/√Hz) with minimal increase in power consumption.
Besides being super low‑power, the ADXL362 has many features to help save energy at the system level. It includes a deep multi‑mode output FIFO, a built‑in ultra‑low‑power temperature sensor, and several motion detection modes, including adjustable‑threshold sleep and wake modes, where the power consumption drops to just 270 nA at a measurement rate around 6Hz. If needed, a pin output can directly control an external switch when motion is detected. The ADXL362 also supports external control of the sample rate and/or system clock. It can operate over a wide supply voltage range of 1.6V to 3.5V and can interface with a host running at a separate low voltage if necessary.
